Met a HAM friend from Romania :

Met OM Florian, YO9GJX from Romania, Campina on GTALK very interesting fellow, he works satellites. As I wanted to know how to work satellites he guided me step by step. He gave me a link which is a must for any layman http://www.hamradio.selfip.com/i6ibe/

We had a long chat on internet and the best part is that we both being hams have never worked on radio with each other hi hi. He was inspired by a very good friend SW1JGW. Infact his website is also interesting http://www.sw1jgw.com/.

As I use windows as operating system he guided me to use Orbitron to track the satellites and told me to try it with AO51.

His working condition for satellites are:
linux debian machine
For RX 6el yagi for 435.300
A Jingtong handy
For TX DR135 with two antennas
Jpole and a Turnstill connected with a 2m splitter

He is a member at GACW cw club for a long time.

Hams go to the Moon everyday :

If you ever wanted to try to 'go to the moon' and back there are Hams doing this everyday bouncing signals off the moons surface and back to earth or Earth-Moon-Earth (EME) communications:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EME_(communications)

It use to be that only the very big stations with lots of money and multiple large arrays could be into this but thanks to those larger EME stations and to a new software (WSJT) there are stations working EME with as little as 50w and smaller single Yagi's...... .

Do you have a multimode 2 meter or 6 meter rig, a PC (to download WSJT program) and a smaller 2 or 6 meter yagi and at least 50w to 100w you just might get addicted to EME (of course you will be using or contacting those larger EME stations that can hear your signal and you hear theirs).

Here is some more information for those interested but there are hundreds of Hams trying this and making contacts using EME...don't think it can't be you or that you can't join in!

If you have a directional antenna, a 2m SSB transceiver with 50 W output and a PC?

Interesting links on homebrewing :

Today, only a minority of hams own and operate completely homebrew or kit-built amateur stations. However, there are many new ham radio kit suppliers, and the "art" of homebrewing is alive and thriving. Homebrew enthusiasts say that building one's own radio equipment is fun and gives them the satisfaction that comes from mastering electronic knowledge.

Here are some links which I found interesting:

Interesting links on VU2LK, OM Bob :

From left to right
Elder harmonic Harsh, VU2LK & Younger harmonic Varun

Having a eyeball with VU2LK, OM Bob and that too with both of my harmonics and XYL was a great feeling. As I had promised Bob that I will visit him with my family one day. Harmonics did enjoyed it and when my younger harmonic asked Bob do u know English on return he asked them in English which school they are studying and hearing it both harmonics were literally shocked. After reaching home I started internet surfing as usual, searched for VU2LK and got some interesting links on India's living legend which I would like to share with you all.

Double Bazooka :

On 12th March 2009, Wednesday it was holiday for my harmonic due to Holi (festival of colours). So holiday for me too hi. At around 2.00 UTC I started my HF rig on 40M. Worked few VU's from south, as I was tuning my radio I heard a strong blasting CQ call from my good old HF friend A45WH, OM San on 7.063. San a very good operator with equally good set up too. I had many QSO with San on 20M, but this was for the first time I worked him on 40M. His signals were coming in 59 over 40db. To my curiosity I asked San which antenna is he using, he told me he is using a Double Bazooka.

After finishing the QSO I started my internet, because I was very keen on Double Bazooka. luckily I got lot of information on the same. The Bazooka antenna design was developed by the staff of M.I.T. in the early 1940's for use by the U.S. Government as a radar antenna. It was modified for amateur radio use in the 1950's. The Double Bazooka Dipole is a very efficient single band antenna which is very quite, and does not require the use of a balun. And I would like to share this wonderful antenna links with you.
